Georgia Children at Work AND PLAY
A HISTORY OF THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER VALLEY
A special program for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th Grade Students
The Columbus Museum, Historic Columbus Foundation and Port Columbus Naval Museum have created a unique, interdisciplinary program that integrates history and art in the study of the historical objects and events in the Chattahoochee Valley. Students will visit one, two or all three sites to learn about the history of children in the Chattahoochee River Valley. This collaborative tour has been developed to bring Georgia history to life for school children in the Chattahoochee River Valley through the presentation and interpretation of images and artifacts from all three institutions.
Our goals for the Georgia Children at Work and Play program are:
• To provide students with an interdisciplinary educational experience using images and artifacts from the collections of all three partner institutions.
• To correlate the museum visits with school curricula and Georgia’s Quality Core Curriculum Standards.
• To make the experience relevant to the lives of the students.
• To encourage the study of our history by helping students to connect with multiple organizations in our community.
