During your visit you will explore the following topics:

Color, Line, Shape, and Pattern

Docent tour guides will discss the formal elements of art and how they can be used to understand representational and non-representational works.

Portraits

Portraits represent a large part of the Columbus Museum's collection. Students will look at portraits and learn how they are depicted by different artists and how they defined by different mediums.

Landscapes

During the tour, students will also learn how line, shape, color and texture can be used to define the specific characteristics of landscape painting.

Still Life

Still Life paintings are a popular themes throughout the history of American painting. Students will learn how objects can be used to form a composition, light and shade, color and texture, and how objects convey meaning.
