Gallery Tales: Life After Emancipation

Students in K-5th grades will learn about our special history exhibition, Let the Records Show: Discovering the Valley's Black Community in Slavery and Freedom. Through storytelling and art, guest educator Patty Chamberlain will teach students about life after emancipation in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Middle schools from Muscogee County are invited to exhibit student artwork throughout March in celebration of Youth Art Month. The Museum will host the exhibition and a reception in their honor.
SLAM Poetry Contest
Thursday, March 18
6:30 - 8:30p.m.
Students who participated in the SLAM workshop in February will be performing their original poetry inspired by objects in our permanent collection. This is a public event and all teachers, students and families are invited to support these young poets as they perform on stage in the Patrick Theatre in what is annually a high-spirited, competitive-yet-encouraging affair. Refreshments will be served.
Youth Art Month Reception

Middles schools from across the region will be displaying student works in the Pound Gallery during March in celebration of Youth Art Month. The Museum will host a reception in their honor.
Careers in the Arts

9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
High school students interested in pursuing a career in the arts are invited to meet and listen to a variety of professionals in the art field.

Hands-on kits for subjects that range from African-American Art, Animals in Art, and Georgia Children at Work and Play to Landscapes, Portraits, and Women in History and Art. ALL KITS ARE AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE TO AREA TEACHERS. They contain audio and video tapes, artwork reproductions, activities and cross-curricular lesson plans.
