Top 5 Things to Do at the Museum This Summer

Top 5 Things to Do at the Museum This Summer

1. Enjoy Live Music

During our Summer Concert Series, we bring art and music together in one setting. Bands from around the region will perform live.  You can even grab tasty food trucks from our food truck vendors!  Who doesn’t like music, art, and food?

2.  Plan a Picnic

Picnics are fun in the park or in your backyard, but why not try our beautiful Bradley Olmsted Garden? This beautiful garden was originally designed for the famous industrialist W.C. Bradley in the 1920s. You can explore our nature trails or grab lunch, a blanket, and lawn chairs to relax under our shaded areas.

Why we recommend it: The Bradley Olmsted Garden is the perfect place for a summer picnic!

3. Get a “Close Up” of Hollywood

Lights, camera, action! Are you a movie lover? If so, then you’re in for a treat! Close Up: Cinema Along the River highlights the movie and television productions that were set or filmed in the Chattahoochee Valley. A few movies that this exhibit highlights are The Fighting Temptations, Need for Speed, and Kiss of the Tarantula. You can also see which movie stars visited the area for work or personal reasons, and objects from movie sets.

Why recommend it: Atlanta might be the capital of the Film industry, but the history started here!

4. Have a Fantastic Friday

What’s so special about Fridays? You get to sing and dance with live musicians and storytellers during our free family program: Fantastic Fridays! The entire family can enjoy a show of music and more from featured performers. After the performance, kids can create their own works of art to take home.

Why we recommend it: Fantastic Fridays is an event that everyone in the family can enjoy.

5. Meet Oscar the Alligator

Here at the Museum, we have a special friend here we encourage everyone to meet. Oscar is an 800-pound alligator that came to the Museum after he was illegally killed in the Chattahoochee River. Oscar loves to take photos with tourists from all over the country. We love Oscar here at the Museum and so will you once you meet him.

Why we recommend it: Oscar is a pretty BIG deal!
